"Interference Patterns: Science and Culture in Dialogue" – an intensive course at the University of Zielona Góra for international exchange students

On 23–27 March 2026, the University of Zielona Góra will host an international intensive educational programme entitled Interference Patterns: Science and Culture in Dialogue. The project is interdisciplinary in nature and focuses on the relationship between science, technology and culture. It combines the perspectives of physics and mathematics with the social sciences, humanities, arts, music, showing how scientific ideas influence culture and how culture interprets and develops scientific thinking.

The classes will be attended by students and employees from foreign partner universities from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Vietnam (connecting about 50 people).

Employees from various units of the University of Zielona Góra, with the leading role of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Sociology, in cooperation with employees of the following institutes: the Institute of Astronomy, the Institute of Polish Philology, the Institute of Philosophy, the Institute of History, the Institute of Mathematics, the Institute of Music, the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Nutrition, are involved in the implementation of the project.

The program includes: lectures and seminars conducted by representatives of various fields, thematic workshops, project work in interdisciplinary teams, field activities combining scientific and artistic reflection, a final symposium presenting the effects of the participants' work. The program is addressed to students and young researchers interested in interdisciplinary cooperation, development of communicative competences and a critical look at the function of science and technology in the modern world.

The event is part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the University of Zielona Góra.
